The cost of computing compared to 1993
I just read an old MacWorld article from Guy Kawasaki, comparing his old 1993 Quadra 800 to an F-15 Eagle fighter… he listed the specs of his Quadra:
- 33mhz
- 8megs ram
- 1gig hd
- $6399 ($9074 in today’s dollars)
I thought it would be fun to see what I could buy today from Apple for the same amount. I looked at MacPro tower at the apple store:
- Two 3.0ghz Quad Core
- 16gigs of RAM
- 2 terabytes of hard drive space
- $9099
If my math is correct, that is:
- 727,000% faster
- 204,800% more memory
- 204,800% more hard drive space
