The cost of computing compared to 1993

I just read an old MacWorld article from Guy Kawasaki, comparing his old 1993 Quadra 800 to an F-15 Eagle fighter… he listed the specs of his Quadra:

  • 33mhz
  • 8megs ram
  • 1gig hd
  • $6399 ($9074 in today’s dollars)
I thought it would be fun to see what I could buy today from Apple for the same amount. I looked at MacPro tower at the apple store:
  • Two 3.0ghz Quad Core
  • 16gigs of RAM
  • 2 terabytes of hard drive space
  • $9099
If my math is correct, that is:
  • 727,000% faster
  • 204,800% more memory
  • 204,800% more hard drive space
